UBTECH Robotics was founded in March 2012 in Shenzhen, China, by Zhou Jian (James Zhou), who developed a passion for robotics during his childhood inspired by the Transformers animated series. His vision was to create humanoid robots capable of emotional interaction and companionship.
The company built a comprehensive portfolio of full-stack core technologies including robotic motion planning, servo actuators, computer vision, SLAM, and its proprietary Robot Operating System Application Framework (ROSA). In 2017, UBTECH exhibited at IFA Berlin. In 2018, Telecom Italia Mobile set a Guinness world record with 1,372 synchronized dancing UBTECH Alpha S1 robots.
During COVID-19 in 2020, UBTECH robots assisted medical workers treating patients in Shenzhen. In 2021, the company delivered robots to 300 pre-schools in Seoul, South Korea, expanding its education robotics footprint.
UBTECH's IPO on December 29, 2023, raised HK$1 billion on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange at HK$90 per share, with a market capitalization of HK$37.6 billion, making it the first humanoid robot company to list on the HKEX. The Walker S, its flagship industrial humanoid, struck the ceremonial gong at the listing ceremony. UBTECH has since partnered with leading new energy vehicle companies to deploy Walker S in manufacturing scenarios.
