The agreement, disclosed October 8, covers joint development, testing and demonstration of embodied-intelligence robots in logistics operations. The companies also plan to develop demonstration environments for humanoid robotics applications in intelligent manufacturing.
The announcement does not disclose an investment amount, robot order quantity or timetable for commercial deployment.
The partnership extends an existing relationship between UBTECH and FAW-Volkswagen, which began exploring industrial humanoid applications at the automaker’s Qingdao manufacturing facility in 2024.
That earlier work involved UBTECH’s Walker S industrial humanoid platform, with applications including bolt tightening, component installation and material transfer.
The company’s Walker S Lite subsequently entered the Qingdao factory for vehicle quality-inspection training, integrating with the plant’s existing automation control systems.
The newly announced agreement adds factory logistics to the companies’ collaboration. However, UBTECH has not identified which humanoid model will perform the logistics tasks or whether the work will take place at Qingdao or another manufacturing facility.
FAW-Volkswagen operates five production bases in China, located in Changchun, Chengdu, Foshan, Qingdao and Tianjin. The joint venture manufactures vehicles under the Volkswagen, Audi and JETTA brands and has reported cumulative production and sales exceeding 30 million vehicles.
UBTECH is developing industrial humanoid robots using an integrated architecture covering foundation models, world models, action models, motion control and multi-robot coordination.
The company has also expanded its manufacturing infrastructure. Its Liuzhou humanoid robot factory entered production in September 2026, with a stated annual capacity target exceeding 10,000 units. That figure represents planned capacity rather than confirmed annual production.
The latest agreement establishes a broader development and testing program with FAW-Volkswagen, but the companies have not disclosed performance results, commercial orders or confirmed logistics deployments under the new arrangement.
