    Apptronik spins out of UT Austin

    Apptronik was founded in 2016 by CEO Jeff Cardenas, CTO Nick Paine, and advisor Luis Sentis out of the Human Centered Robotics Lab at the University of Texas at Austin. The team's work dates back to NASA's Valkyrie project, where they were contracted to build humanoid robot systems for space applications.

    Apollo is unveiled as Apptronik’s commercial humanoid

    Apollo culminated from the design and development of over 10 general-purpose robots, including extensive work on NASA Valkyrie. On August 23, 2023, Apptronik unveiled Apollo, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with the ability to lift 55 pounds. It was designed from the ground up for friendly interaction, mass manufacturability, and safety.

    Mercedes-Benz and Jabil bring Apollo into manufacturing pilots

    In March 2024, Apptronik entered a commercial agreement with Mercedes-Benz to pilot Apollo in manufacturing facilities, the first publicly announced commercial deployment of the robot. In February 2025, a partnership with Jabil integrated Apollo into global electronics manufacturing operations.
