General-purpose humanoid with vision-first AI, Tesla-designed actuators, and factory deployment.
Optimus Gen 2 is the second-generation humanoid robot developed by Tesla, the US electric vehicle and AI company. Introduced in 2023, the platform builds on Tesla’s expertise in autonomous driving, electric actuators, and large-scale manufacturing to create a general-purpose humanoid designed for industrial work and, over time, household assistance. Tesla envisions Optimus performing repetitive, physically demanding, and potentially hazardous tasks across a wide range of environments. The robot stands approximately 1.73 meters tall, weighs around 57 kilograms, and features Tesla-designed electric actuators for efficient whole-body movement and dexterous manipulation. Its perception system relies entirely on cameras and neural networks, applying the same vision-first AI approach used in Tesla’s autonomous driving technology instead of LiDAR. Compared with the original Optimus, Gen 2 is lighter, faster, more balanced, and equipped with significantly improved hands capable of handling delicate objects with greater precision.
