About RB-Y1

RB-Y1 is a wheeled mobile manipulation robot developed by Rainbow Robotics, a South Korean robotics company founded by researchers from KAIST’s HUBO humanoid laboratory. Building on the team’s expertise in humanoid robotics, including the DARPA Robotics Challenge-winning DRC-HUBO, RB-Y1 is designed for manufacturing, logistics, research, and service applications where stable mobility and precise manipulation are more practical than bipedal locomotion. The robot combines an omnidirectional wheeled base with two seven-degree-of-freedom robotic arms and an articulated lifting column that enables the upper body to raise, lower, and lean while maintaining balance. Each arm can handle payloads of approximately 3 kilograms with high repeatability, allowing RB-Y1 to perform precision assembly, laboratory automation, material handling, and warehouse operations. The platform travels at speeds of up to 1.5 meters per second and supports open development through software tools and research interfaces.
