CEO Lee Jun-hee announced the plan at the company’s REAL Summit 2026 in Seoul on September 8. Samsung SDS says the platform will connect different types of robots and factory equipment into a common operating layer, handling functions such as movement planning, fleet coordination and task reassignment when individual robots fail.
The company is building the new business around manufacturing infrastructure it already manages. Samsung SDS says it has spent more than 25 years working on manufacturing execution systems, equipment automation and logistics for over 430 customers across industries including semiconductors, batteries and biotechnology.
It has also formed Team REX, a group of 10 global Physical AI and robotics companies that includes Rainbow Robotics and Walden Robotics.
Walden has become one of the more important partners in the strategy. Samsung SDS made a strategic investment in the Toyota Research Institute spinout through Samsung Venture Investment in June and has already tested Walden’s general-purpose robots at Samsung affiliated manufacturing sites. The companies are now working together to identify additional factory use cases.
Samsung SDS has also tested robotics technologies from other suppliers at sites operated by Samsung Electro-Mechanics, SEMES, Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung E&A. Those trials covered tasks including parts handling, consumable replacement and work in less structured industrial environments.
The platform itself is planned for 2027, so this is currently a roadmap rather than a commercial product launch. Samsung SDS has not disclosed pricing or deployment volumes.
