Skild AI was founded in 2023 by Deepak Pathak and Abhinav Gupta, two professors at Carnegie Mellon's Robotics Institute collaborating on robotics research for nearly a decade. Their key insight came in 2015 with a 1,000x scaling of robotics data, followed by their influential 2017 paper on curiosity-driven learning.
The company emerged from stealth in July 2024 with a $300 million Series A at $1.5 billion valuation, led by Lightspeed, Coatue, and SoftBank, with participation from Jeff Bezos and Sequoia Capital.
Skild became profitable in 2025 with ~$30 million in revenue. Its Skild Brain is tested across security, delivery, warehouses, manufacturing, and construction. A landmark deal with Nvidia and Foxconn brought the technology into factory environments.
