XPENG Opens Automated IRON Humanoid Production Line Ahead of 2026 Mass Production

XPENG has officially commissioned its humanoid robot production lines, moving its next-generation IRON platform from prototype development into production-line manufacturing.

The first IRON completed assembly and autonomously walked off the line, while XPENG says more than 80% of the line’s core manufacturing processes are automated. The company is applying production systems developed for its automotive business, including automotive-grade quality control and automated manufacturing processes, to humanoid robots.  

The commissioning does not yet mean IRON is in mass production. XPENG says volume production remains scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, with initial robots deployed at its own stores and campuses. An official market launch and deliveries in China and overseas markets are planned for 2027. The company has not disclosed the line’s current capacity or IRON’s commercial price.  

IRON has 76 degrees of freedom across the body and 21 in each hand. Its onboard compute comes from three XPENG Turing AI chips delivering up to 2,250 TOPS, allowing the company’s Physical AI foundation model to run directly on the robot. XPENG says this allows IRON to perform tasks autonomously without relying on remote operation.  

The manufacturing milestone follows a major financing announced last month. XPENG’s robotics business entered into agreements to raise more than $900 million at a post-money valuation above $6.3 billion, with IDG Capital leading and participation from Gaorong Ventures, Alibaba and Tencent.  

The production line gives XPENG one of the clearest manufacturing roadmaps among automotive companies moving into humanoid robotics, while the next milestone is whether it can convert the new line into sustained volume production before year-end.
