Ameca is a humanoid robot made by Engineered Arts, a company based in the United Kingdom that specializes in robots for entertainment, communication, and research. Unlike humanoids aimed at factory or warehouse labor, Ameca is designed for human-robot interaction, with a focus on realistic facial expressions, smooth gestures, and lifelike responses. Its face and upper body are driven by the company's Mesmer technology and it comes preloaded with dozens of facial expressions, using cameras in the eyes and chest, microphones, and facial recognition to sense and react to the people around it. Rather than walking, Ameca is built for the head, arms, and torso movement that supports conversation and demonstration. It is widely used in research institutions, science museums, corporate events, and educational settings, and it has become a recognizable example of an expressive social robot in public demonstrations.
