In 2024, Engineered Arts restructured as a US entity and secured $10 million Series A. With offices in Cornwall, London, and Redwood City, the company has 250+ robots in 30+ countries.
Engineered Arts was founded in October 2004 by Will Jackson in Falmouth, Cornwall. His first humanoid, RoboThespian Mark 1, was created for The Eden Project in 2005.
RoboThespian became the flagship for over a decade, deployed at science museums, theme parks, and institutions worldwide. The Mesmer technology enabled highly realistic humanoid faces through 3D scans and photogrammetry.
Ameca development started in February 2021, with the first video going viral in December 2021. Ameca debuted at CES 2022, powered by 17 facial motors and cloud-connected AI including GPT-4.
