About Abi

Abi is a humanoid companion robot developed by Andromeda for aged care and assisted living. Built in Melbourne, Australia, Abi is designed to reduce loneliness and social isolation by giving residents more frequent access to personalised conversation, companionship, and group activities while complementing the work of care teams. Abi uses AI and machine learning to recognise faces, understand and express emotions, remember previous conversations, and adapt interactions to each resident over time. The robot can speak 90 languages and is designed to engage both one-to-one and in groups through conversation, games, singing, dancing, and other social activities. Andromeda says Abi can remember details from interactions days or months earlier, allowing the robot to build continuity and familiarity with individual residents. Rather than being positioned as an industrial automation platform, Abi is focused on human-robot interaction and emotional engagement. The robot is already deployed with aged-care providers in Australia, including across mecwacare communities, and Andromeda has begun expanding into senior living in the United States.
