The provisional development center is expected to open next month inside LG’s Yangjae Data Factory. NVIDIA engineers are expected to work alongside LG researchers on joint projects involving robotics data, simulation and robot foundation models.
LG confirmed that working-level teams from the two companies have been collaborating since signing an MOU in August, although it did not disclose individual projects. An NVIDIA representative also confirmed that the proposal for employees from the two companies to conduct research in the same space emerged during an NVIDIA visit to LG’s facility last month.
The companies plan to use data collected from physical robot operations alongside synthetic data generated in virtual environments. Training results will then be applied back to physical robots, creating an iterative pipeline between real-world operation and simulation.
LG is building its Data Factory around environments modeled on homes, factories and logistics facilities. The company aims to have several hundred robots deployed by the end of 2026 and accumulate 100,000 hours of combined real-world and synthetic training data.
That dataset will support development of LG’s robot foundation model, intended to allow robots to interpret environments and select actions across unfamiliar tasks. NVIDIA’s simulation and Physical AI technologies will be used to expand real-world operating data into additional virtual scenarios.
The collaboration follows the companies’ August agreement covering future strategic businesses and subsequent visits by NVIDIA robotics representatives to LG’s Yangjae facility.
