The 585,000-square-foot facility will bring advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating and assembly operations under one roof. Amazon says production will also use AWS infrastructure, AI-powered manufacturing systems and robotics. Operations are expected to begin by 2028.
Amazon has not specified which robotics systems or components will be manufactured at the Greenwood site, describing its output as products that power the company’s fulfillment and robotics network. The facility will create 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering positions, with average salaries of nearly $100,000 per year.
The investment comes as Amazon expands its domestic robotics manufacturing footprint. The company announced a separate robotics manufacturing project in Austin, Texas, in August. Reporting from The Wall Street Journal says the Indiana and Texas facilities will double Amazon’s number of robot-manufacturing plants.
Amazon says it has now manufactured and deployed more than one million robots across its operations. Those systems operate across more than 300 facilities and assist employees with approximately 75% of customer orders delivered worldwide, according to company figures.
Amazon acquired warehouse robotics company Kiva Systems for $775 million in 2012 and has since developed systems spanning autonomous mobile robots, robotic arms and automated storage and retrieval infrastructure.
