Hugging Face has grown into a central platform for open AI models, datasets and applications. NVIDIA says more than 18 million developers use the platform, which now hosts more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications. More than 200,000 companies use Hugging Face to discover, customize and deploy AI.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said Hugging Face will continue operating as an open platform following the acquisition. Developers will not be required to use NVIDIA hardware, and the platform will continue supporting different models, clouds and computing platforms.
Reuters reports the transaction includes nearly $12 billion for Hugging Face investors and up to $1 billion in equity awards for employees joining NVIDIA. Hugging Face was last valued at $4.5 billion in a 2023 funding round backed by investors including Amazon, Salesforce, Google and NVIDIA.
For robotics, the deal also brings Hugging Face’s expanding physical AI ecosystem further into NVIDIA.
Hugging Face acquired Pollen Robotics in April 2025, adding the company behind the open-source Reachy 2 humanoid platform. It has since continued expanding its robotics hardware and software work alongside LeRobot, its open-source framework for robot learning. Pollen’s current hardware lineup also includes Reachy Mini and the recently introduced Microduck biped.
NVIDIA and Hugging Face were already working together on robotics before the acquisition. NVIDIA’s GR00T N1 humanoid foundation model was released through Hugging Face, while NVIDIA has contributed models, datasets and infrastructure integrations across the platform.
Hugging Face’s robotics community has also grown quickly. The company reported earlier this year that robotics had become its largest dataset category, with nearly 27,000 robotics datasets on the Hub in 2025.
The acquisition gives NVIDIA ownership of that platform and community alongside Hugging Face’s broader open-model ecosystem, while Hugging Face says its open-source approach will remain unchanged.
