Dropbear is an open-source humanoid robot developed by Hyperspawn, a startup building 3D-printed, modular humanoids and the software to control them, including simulation, reinforcement learning, and teleoperation. The project's stated goal is accessibility: the design uses 3D-printable parts and off-the-shelf components so anyone can build, customize, repair, study, and replicate it. The hardware and printable files are published publicly, with the robot released under the permissive MIT license, and it ships with native ROS 2 integration plus Gazebo and MuJoCo simulation models. According to Hyperspawn, Dropbear is around 1.8 meters tall and roughly 45 kilograms, made from PLA and PETG components with servo and quasi-direct-drive actuators, and can be teleoperated using a VR headset and motion-capture suit. The company markets it as a semi-assembled pre-order kit that includes the non-printable hardware, electronics, and motors. It stands out less for verified field performance than for its positioning as a fully open, home-buildable humanoid platform for makers, researchers, and hobbyists rather than an industrial or commercial product.
