About Elf

Elf is an expressive robotic head developed by AheadForm, a company based in Shanghai, China. Unlike most humanoid projects that pursue full-body locomotion and manipulation, AheadForm concentrates on the face, treating the head as what gives a robot identity and the ability to relate to people. The Elf V1 series carries up to about 30 degrees of freedom, driven by brushless micro-motors that stand in for facial muscles and pull or release under the skin to form lifelike expressions. Its modular silicone bionic skin attaches magnetically for easy customization and maintenance. The head has moving eyes and eyelids and a mouth that syncs with speech, and it integrates language and vision models so it can read a person's emotional state and respond with matching tone. AheadForm gears the technology toward customer service, education, healthcare, and companionship, where natural face-to-face interaction matters.
