About ORCA Hand

ORCA Hand is an open-source dexterous robotic hand developed by the Soft Robotics Lab at ETH Zurich under the ORCA Dexterity project. Built for embodied AI and robotic manipulation research, the platform combines an anthropomorphic tendon-driven design with integrated tactile sensing to provide a low-cost, highly reproducible alternative to expensive commercial robotic hands. All mechanical designs, software, and documentation are openly available to support research and education. The hand features 17 degrees of freedom, including 16 across the fingers and one at the wrist, allowing it to perform complex grasping and in-hand manipulation tasks. Its tendon-driven architecture closely replicates human hand mechanics while reducing finger weight and improving agility.
