XPENG Robotics Secures Record Funding for Humanoid AI
XPENG is making a major push into humanoid robotics after its robotics business secured over $900 million in funding, giving the unit a post-money valuation of more than $6.3 billion. XPENG describes the transaction as the largest single-round private financing in China’s embodied AI industry to date.
The funding round was led by IDG Capital, with participation from Gaorong Ventures and strategic support from Tencent and Alibaba. The investment is expected to accelerate XPENG’s development of Physical AI, humanoid robotics hardware and software, and large-scale manufacturing capabilities.
XPENG IRON Takes Center Stage
At the heart of XPENG’s robotics strategy is IRON, the company’s next-generation humanoid robot. XPENG is developing IRON as a general-purpose humanoid platform designed to combine human-like movement with AI-driven intelligence.
The company plans to begin mass production by the end of 2026, with initial deployments at XPENG stores and campuses. Broader commercial deliveries in China and overseas markets are planned for 2027.
From Electric Vehicles to Physical AI
The funding highlights XPENG’s broader strategy of expanding beyond electric vehicles into Physical AI and robotics.
XPENG says its robotics business has developed an integrated technology stack covering robotic hardware, actuation systems, AI models, control systems and other core technologies. The company believes its experience in intelligent vehicles and autonomous driving can provide strategic advantages as it moves toward large-scale humanoid robot deployment.
The new capital will support robotics R&D, Physical AI model development, high-quality data collection, manufacturing infrastructure and global commercialization.
A Major Milestone for the Humanoid Robotics Industry
The $900 million-plus raise underscores the growing investor interest in humanoid robots and embodied AI. With a valuation above $6.3 billion before large-scale commercial deployment, XPENG’s robotics unit is now positioned as one of the most highly valued private businesses in the emerging humanoid robotics sector.
For XPENG, the goal is clear: move humanoid robots from research and demonstrations toward real-world production and commercial use.
