Audi is testing mobile humanoid robots developed by Agile Robots to automate parts sequencing at its Ingolstadt manufacturing site. The German carmaker announced the project with Dassault Systèmes and NVIDIA on October 21, 2026, during GTC Berlin. The work is taking place in Audi’s Production Lab, where engineers evaluate new production and logistics technology.
The robots combine two manipulator arms with a mobile base. Their assignment is to pick components from containers and arrange them in the order required by the final assembly process. They work at approximately human height, allowing them to interact with existing factory equipment and material-handling areas.
Audi says its logistics operations involve around one million individual picks each day. Parts sequencing is difficult to automate when components have different shapes and packaging, arrive in mixed containers or include flexible materials. The partners are evaluating whether AI-powered perception and dual-arm manipulation can handle that variation reliably.
The project also uses a digital replica of the logistics environment. Dassault Systèmes is supplying its DELMIA application and 3DEXPERIENCE platform, incorporating NVIDIA Omniverse libraries. Engineers intend to evaluate task feasibility, cycle times, ergonomics and safety virtually before introducing robots into wider factory logistics. Dassault’s LEO assistant is planned as an additional engineering tool.
Agile Robots was founded in Munich in 2018 and reports more than 20,000 robotic solutions installed worldwide. That figure covers the company’s broader industrial automation portfolio and should not be interpreted as the number of mobile humanoids deployed. Audi has not disclosed the number of robots in this trial, any contract value or a timetable for a production rollout.
The project focuses on a defined factory task rather than a general demonstration. Whether the machines eventually enter regular operations will depend on their performance in the sequencing workflow and the results of the engineering tests.
