Italian robotics company Generative Bionics plans to build a 5,000-square-metre Physical AI training facility in Italy with computing infrastructure from AMD. Announced on October 21 at CES Unveiled Milan, the project is intended to become the first site in a three-facility network for developing and testing industrial humanoid robots.
The Italian hub is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. A second facility is planned elsewhere in Europe, followed by a third location serving international markets. The company has not disclosed the total investment, construction timetable or locations of the additional sites.
The facilities will combine real-world robot training with digital-twin simulations and AI computing. Generative Bionics intends to use its GENE.01 humanoid to collect data from physical tasks, reproduce those tasks in simulation and train models across many variations before testing the results on robots again. This process is designed to improve the reliability of robot behavior before deployment at customer sites.
AMD will supply computing and storage technology, including infrastructure based on its Helios platform. The relationship extends an existing partnership: AMD Ventures participated in Generative Bionics’ seed financing, and the company’s humanoid already uses AMD computing hardware. The planned training network would bring that relationship into model development and validation.
Generative Bionics is developing humanoids for industrial work and recently announced a separate partnership with energy group Eni to explore applications in its operations. The proposed data factory is not itself a robot deployment. Its value will depend on the volume and quality of training data generated and whether the resulting skills perform reliably in production settings.
The announcement also reflects the growing emphasis on local robotics research infrastructure in Europe. Generative Bionics says the network will keep key training data, simulation capabilities and technical expertise within the region, although the project remains at the planning stage.
